Caption This! A Cable series created by Jo-Ann Dean, CEO of SIGNmation Productions was picked up and distributed by Silent Network. We created 24 open captioned episodes with focus on arts in education, Deaf representation in TV, Stage and Film to promote the visibility of American Sign Language (ASL) and culture by Deaf Artists. The first of the series was celebrated with Ed Waterstreet and the newly founded Deaf West Theatre live in studio with Open Captions, at a time when television, theatrical screening and media were not captioned.
Filmed as a local access cable series, Caption This! Covered local, state and national arts programs serving the Deaf including the Emmy winning Deaf Mosaic with Deaf hosts Gil Eastman and Mary Lou Novitsky; National Theatre of the Deaf with Artistic Director Julianna Fjeld; Media Access Awards with coverage of Emmy & Oscar Award winner Marlee Matlin, Tony Award winner Phyllis Frelich and Grammy winner Ed Stasium and Bernard Bragg. Awarded Best Cultural Content and Winner of LA Cultural Awards Grant and Media Access Nominee.
